Glimmer

Some nights I distill the foundations of my will,
Tracing the depths of this yearning to be of use.

I ask if it predates upon the inequities of circumstance,
Feeding upon a marrow of injustice.
Or if it is the revelation of a thread that binds us all
in a fabric beyond the dictates of thought.

And if these years unravel towards the truth of it,
It moves past fallacies and false dichotomies.

For it is through acts of contribution,
Through the mirror of interdependence
That I have peered beneath this skin,
Into a world I sincerely embrace,
Where sorrow is fertile soil for seeds of joy.

Fishing for Humanity

Hey Guys,

I'm proud to announce the completion of my solo project, a documentary on the Sri Lankan NGO Simple Wisdom that i have been working for since 2005. It is a small organization that looks to undertake community and individual projects to alleviate poverty. After the 2004 Tsunami our work range expanded and the current humanitarian crisis in the war torn East has compelled us to carry on.

In fact this film was shot with the knowledge that it was the last trip we'd make as we visited projects along the Southern and Eastern Coast while venturing through central Sri Lanka to meet the indigenous people and then onwards the poorer regions of the North Central province.

The trip and the film itself is personal and aims to give insights into not only the work of Simple Wisdom but into the working of small NGOs and the plight of the less fortunate in many areas. There are a lot of universal themes that are explored...particularly through interviews with the founder of the organization, colleagues..victims and myself. Filming was difficult in some areas due to the strict security rules, particularly in the East where even cellular signals are blocked...thus I feel I was lucky to have gotten the footage that i did manage to get.

Of course it's impossible to upload the entire film. I'd be glad to arrange to send anyone a copy if they are really interested. For now all i can offer is a link to a small trailer.

Cheers
Shanil

Decay Release

I'm happy to announce that our second movie "Decay" has been completed. I'm uploading it as I write this. You will have to excuse the hiccups with the credits at the end in terms of audio sync. We couldn't correct it as I had to fly back to Sri Lanka .... i have compressed what I have and i honestly do feel that there's little that detracts from the intended result.

"Decay" is a story Nish and I fleshed out almost instantaneously. It is a story with many intricate layers that we discovered when working with story angles. At first glance it seems like a tarzan meets the outside world story but in essence the story is a parallel between physical destruction of all that is natural and at a more interpersonal level...self destruction in favour of artifical constructions...the human psyche's increasing dependence on the external ..dwarfing...crippling and even killing innocence and perhaps more pertinently ...their identity.

We sincerely hope you enjoy this film, I will upload a small slideshow and post the clip itself shortly. Do feel free to give us your feedback...

"Whatever it is that happened...

I stumbled upon a reality I had all but forgotten...

It was a reality nestled in my days of innocence...

but it too much like much of my world... had decayed...

It clung on with hope in defiance of all artificiallity encroaching it....

but now it too lies buried...buried in the very same place i found it after so long...

I only wish that it shan't be the death of me...atleast there's refuge in smoke...

and with it....seeds of hope...even if artificial."

Solace - Slideshow

Here is a small sideshow showcasing some scenes from the short film.

SOLACE

Here's our very first movie titled "Solace". It was written, directed and produced by Nish and myself. It is loosely based on a short story that I wrote and it is a silent, visual piece on the ill effects of isolation and monotony on the mind. It clocks in at just under 15mins and was a real labour of love. It is layered with symbolism from the first scene to the last. It is the type of film that needs at least 2 views to dig deep into the symbolism that each scene was endowed with. We went to great lengths to endow the film with a dingy, psychotic feel. We sincerely hope you enjoy it and give us your invaluable feedback.
